history

Anti-Pop Consortium was founded in 1997 in New York City . The founding members were rappers Beans , High Priest, M. Sayyid and producer Earl Blaize. They met at a poetry slam . Her first releases were three self-published, Consortium- titled mixtapes .

The group's first album, Tragic Epilogue , was released on 75 Ark, the label of electronica artist Dan the Automator . The album was named Record of the Year by The Wire . Around the turn of the millennium, APC signed with the British independent label Warp Records , where they released Arrhythmia in 2002 . During this time they went on tour supporting first Radiohead and then DJ Shadow .

Half a year after the release of Arrhythmia , the band broke up. Shortly before she broke up, she still took Antipop vs. Matthew Shipp , a collaboration with free jazz pianist Matthew Shipp (published by Thirsty Ear ). After the breakup, Beans pursued a solo career, while High Priest and M.Sayyid formed the duo Airborn Audio .
